Vodafone Smart Tab N8: the cheap Android tablet we’ve been waiting for?

There really aren’t that many good, cheap Android tablets around at the moment, but Vodafone has just slid a new slate into the mix with the Smart Tab N8.

It will set you back just £129 on Pay as you Go when bought with a £10 Big Value Bundle top up, or you can pay £30 up front and then £10 per month to get it on contract with 2GB of data.

For that you get a 10.1-inch, 1280 x 800 display, MediaTek quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage + microSD slot, 5MP rear camera, 2MP rear camera, Android 7 and a 4600mAh battery.

It’s not going to set the world alight, but those specs put the Smart Tab N8 in line with Amazon’s low-cost Fire tablets – the current leaders in the cheap tablet market.

Limitations

Of course at this price there are always limitations. Firstly it’s only available from Vodafone, so you won’t be able to use another network’s SIM card in it, and the performance is unlikely to hack high-end games.

There are dual front facing speakers though, so hopefully the sound quality when watching videos and playing games won't be terrible.

That's not all the network has up its sleeve; announcing the Vodafone Smart V8 phone alongside its new slate.

Smart, powerful phone

The Smart V8 packs an impressive spec list with a 5.5-inch full HD display, Snapdragon 435 chipset, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front facing snapper, Android 7.1.1 and a rear fingerprint scanner.

You get all that for £160 on PAYG, or you can pick it up for free upfront on contracts starting at £23 per month.
