There have been many reports of a sequel linking the two films, after the ending of Split revealed the two films take place in the same cinematic universe. Shyamalan took to Twitter today to confirm it, writing, “Okay. Here we go. Finished the new script. It’s taken 17 years, but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, ‘Are you making a f****ing sequel to Unbreakable or what?’ My new film is the sequel to Unbreakable AND Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.”

The new film will be titled Glass and is slated to release on January 18, 2019. Willis and Jackson will reprise their roles from Unbreakable. In addition, McAvoy will play the Horde, and Anya Taylor Joy will come back as Casey Cooke from Split. Shyamalan will once again team with Jason Blum, of Blumhouse Productions, and Universal Pictures.

The director first teased the film back in February when he was working on an outline for it. Originally, McAvoy’s character, Kevin–pre-multiple personalities–was going to appear in Unbreakable but was ultimately cut. Split was Shayamalan’s biggest opening to date, grossing $ 100 million its first weekend.
