CD Projekt Announces 25 Million Copies Of The Witcher Games Sold

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is viewed by many as one of the biggest achievements of this video game generation to this point. In addition to winning our 2015 Game of the Year award, many point to the third entry in The Witcher series as an exemplary case study in open-world, side-quest, and narrative design. However, the series as a whole recently reached an impressive milestone according to developer CD Projekt's financial report.

The company reports that since the debut release of The Witcher series in 2007, the team has sold 25 million copies across the three entries in the series. CD Projekt also says that sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and its expansions have topped 1 billion PLN (approximately $ 253.7 million), which has enabled the studio to embark on additional titles like the previously announced Cyberpunk 2077.

In addition, the company reports 584 million PLN in sales revenue (approximately $ 148.1 million), with 251 million PLN in net profit (approximately $ 63.7 million) in 2016. These numbers were aided by the sales on CD Projekt's digital distribution retailer GOG.com

"For years we have consistently prioritized quality and focused on a limited range of products," president of CD Projekt Adam KiciƄski says. "The persistently strong sales of the entire The Witcher series vindicate our approach and contribute to long-term appeal of our releases."

As previously mentioned, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt took home Game Informer's 2015 Game of the Year award. The game's massive expansion, Blood and Wine, took home our Best Role-Playing award in 2016, as well as our Reader's Choice awards for Best Role-Playing and overall Game of the Year that same year.

Our Take
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was a masterpiece of a game, and the other entries in the series are also well-liked. It's great to see that CD Projekt's approach to producing quality over quantity is paying off.
